Samuel Wesley Gathing: A Closer Look is the moving true story of Sam and Beatrice Gathing and the struggles they faced rearing their fourteen children during the era of the Jim Crow laws. These laws meant that both society and the system enforced the damaging view that their children were just stupid black kids. In this climate of institutionalized discrimination, Sam had to maneuver his way through a massive minefield of irrational hatred intended to destroy him and his family. Sam and Beatrice began their life together in December, 1929, in Desoto County, Mississippi, taking the gift of a mule named Rock and a big red cow to start their farm. Over the years, as their family expanded, so did the land that they farmed. Sam learned to live by the rules of the day but was always a true leader to both his family and to his friends. Through all of the challenges that Sam encountered, his faith in God never wavered—he believed that the truth could be found in God’s words and actions, not in the laws that were meant to harm him and his people.

Book Description Praise Dancing In The Rain In The Midst Of My Life’s Storm, (Little Things Makes A Big Difference) is intended to be an easy and gentle read, yet strongly effective. To you that read my book, I resign my liberty and I tell you my secrets. I will share with you the little things in my life that made a big difference. I am sharing my secrets with you and it is my sincere hope that you will tell someone. There have always been a certain feeling of power attached to the keeping of my secrets along with reciprocal bonds between my secrecy and emotions. Keeping my secrets made me an individual and now telling my secrets voluntarily forges a link with others and helps me become a better person. What you are about to read are secrets that I have jotted down in a journal, on sticky note or just carried around in my heart and head. My secret speaks of my hopes, dreams, love, gratitude and great passion for life. I share the stories of my life’s storms, my abilities over my disabilities, victory over defeat, advantages over disadvantages, and my desire to live a well live life over an unlived death. I am truly grateful and blessed from all the small things that made the big difference in my life. It is the experiences and learned lessons from the small things that I have learned how to praise dance in the rain until I can soar above my life’s storms. The little things are enormously significant. Each time I experience something I write it down in my journal and I ask myself two questions; What have I learned from it, and how can I use what I have learned to immediately improve my life? The content of this book is also the result of a quickening, energy and desire that translated from my heart through my head and now into this book. It offers inspiration, as well as spiritual, emotional and personal empowerment. It speaks of daily occurrences in my life, real life situations with others, humor and scriptures. This book imparts a message that Life is full of ups and downs, trail and tribulations, and challenges and struggles, which are called the storms of life. These storms presents opportunities, new levels of growth, new possibilities, wisdom, inner strength as well as an invitation for lips and heart to sing, arms to be spread as wings for soaring and feet to dance a graceful dance throughout the storm with the part of life that is stronger than the problem being faced. Every storm has a season and can be a result of God’s divine will as well as his permissive will. The storms in our lives provides the environment in which God reveals himself and where He wants us to learn to trust Him by taking Him at His Word. God does not always send the storm; however he will allows us to go through them for growth. He wants us to dance in the rain and soar above our storms as eagles. The Bible declares in Isaiah 40:31: “But they that “wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”(KJV). The eagle has long been a symbol of strength, power and majesty, they face storms fearlessly. They are of the few birds that do not fear or attempt to escape the storm. They simply use the storm to lift them higher, they adjust their wings feathers for maximum altitude and they are able to fly high above the storm. The eagle’s eyes are protected by a clear membrane that protects their vision, which allows them to see clearly as they fly at high speed and when they are in a storm. That is exactly what God wants our experiences in the storm to be. God wants us to learn to face storms with vision instead of emotion. He wants us to keep a clear vision and maintain the right perspective in our storms by letting our problems and challenges cause us to rise higher and higher. God wants us to envision victory over our storms. Eagles are constantly cleaning their feathers, pulling out any that are ruffled or damage

Have you ever found yourself in a storm of someone else’s making? For author Yvonne Hilton Bourgeois, that storm came in the midst of family difficulties. To get through it and realize she could not depend on herself to fix it, she began to visualize climbing into the trunk of her car, closing the trunk, and letting God drive. In Meet Me in the Trunk, Yvonne shares important lessons on how she learned to cast aside her own judgment and depend on God alone. Facing day-to-day stresses at work, marriage difficulties, children, grandchildren, and relationships, Yvonne visited the “trunk” to let God minister to her anxious and wounded spirit. God never failed her, giving her messages to use for each situation. With wit and wisdom, Yvonne breaks down each of these lessons and shows you how you can survive storms and even witness the rainbows that usually follow. She offers thought-provoking questions that challenge you to look deep inside your heart for the answers. Discussions include overcoming your humanness, setting aside selfishness, discovering the true meaning of the covenant, and much more. For anyone whose life journey hits a bump every once in a while, Meet Me in the Trunk is an inspirational guide to letting God take control of your life.

Why does a good God allow innocent suffering? Why does a just God act unfairly? Why does a sovereign God let disease and evil run rampant? These are not questions asked from the onlooker's armchair, nor from the academic's desk, but from the anguish of the sickbed and the frustration of the wheelchair. The problem of pain is considered with the heart as well as the head. Christopher Ash leads us through the biblical story of Job as we wrestle with these questions today. He honestly explores the lonely and cruel nature of suffering and whether God can be found in the midst of it. He exposes the shortcomings of Job's friends who deny the possibility of innocent suffering, and are unaware of the roles that Satan, the fall and the cross have to play. With compassion and clarity he takes the reader through Job's long debate with God - towards a humbling and hopeful resolution.

God Plants the Dream... The Seed Breaks Open with Faith My deepest desire in writing this book has been that God will be glorified and exalted through anyone touched by my sharing of how His Word has blessed and shaped my own life's experiences. I have shared my favorite, relevant scriptures, to show how it was done without God, how it works with God, and how it works for God. For me, there is no better way than to be His disciple. The rainbow theme was inspired by Bible references in Genesis 9: 8-17, with the story of Noah and the flood, and Revelation 4: 3, which describe the rainbow as a gift of God and the seal of His covenant with mankind, encircling the very throne of God. I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth . Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Genesis 9: 12 A storm, the color of black, is never part of a colorful rainbow, which expresses the very nature and glorious presence of God. The Rainbow Bible describe the significance of the colors: "Purple assigned to God because it is a color of royalty; Blue assigned to Salvation because it has a heavenly or eternal connotation; Silver assigned to History because it signifies age or experience." I've experienced many storms in my life, the dark and cold times when there is so little light. Many times I wondered when my dark trial would be over, and the thought of the rainbow helped me make it through. We need to know there is always light, and oftentimes a radiant rainbow, after the storm. For over 17 years, it has been my heart's dream to create this book, even though I am unqualified and lack all the good skills in reading, writing andspelling that an author would seem to need. There is a saying that goes, "We know how many seeds are in an apple, but we never know how many apples are in a seed." God always reaches out His hand for the ones that are weak in many areas, and so, this book has come forth as a miracle from His grace, through the support and skill of others. He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led him about, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. Deuteronomy 32: 10 KJV My father died when I was three years old, and my mother died when I was eleven years old. I became orphaned and a ward of the court. I suffered greatly from extreme loneliness and lack of love . yet, with so much of life's burdens forced upon me, the unconditional love of God gave me the hope and courage to come through it all . and even helped me to become a successful real estate broker! I've had a full life of 56 years, and I've written only glimpses of it here. There is so much more I could share. It was very difficult to choose the most important pieces, as each experience is so precious. We are all extremely unique and, at the same time, one of a kind and can benefit from each other's life lessons. That is my intention, and I send this book into your hearts with tremendous love and respect for everyone that reads it. These things I command; that you love one another. John 15: 17 Please know that no matter how dark it is for you today, there are always rainbows that emerge from the storms. I pray that this book will be inspiring to all who have gone through or who are going through their own personal storms. I pray that God guides and strengthens you, and that the thoughts I've sharedwill give you great hope and much, much courage to go out there and do the impossible -- not because you can do it -- because God can. God bless you. May you have a tremendous miracle life that is so overflowing with blessings of unconditional love you can hardly grasp it all! Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37: 4

Life was anything but idyllic for Esther as a child. She grew up in Honduras in a small home built from driftwood collected along the beach from shipwrecks. With ten children in the house, food was scarce. But what her family lacked in material possessions, they made up for in love and a deep faith in God. At the tender age of seven, Esther was sent to live with a couple to work as their housemaid. What was done in love to provide Esther with food and better living accommodations turned into a twelve-year nightmare of physical and verbal abuse--something she kept hidden from her parents out of respect for their instruction to obey her employer. When Esther secured her freedom, she turned away from God and decided to do things her way. Sadly, her decisions led to more heartache and trials. The freedom she sought ended in other forms of slavery. Could she ever find true freedom? Did God hold the answer? Journey with Esther as she recounts her childhood, the lessons her parents taught her, her quest to come to America, two abusive marriages, and God's never-failing love and forgiveness in A Storm Within. Although her life has been battered by many storms, God has always been beside her.

When he fell from a darkened stage in November 1996, Kirk Franklin could easily have been killed. That ten-foot plunge might have ended the career of one of America's most exciting young prodigies. But thanks to his dramatic recovery, the fall added not only a new dimension to his story but it brought Kirk Franklin to the attention of millions who otherwise might never have heard the name. Today Kirk Franklin is bigger than ever. His recordings have topped the charts, selling more copies in less time than any gospel musician in history. He has won every award gospel music has to offer but his own success is the last thing on his mind. This is the story of a young man from the poor side of town. He was taunted and teased as a child, but his faith and his remarkable musical talent helped him overcome the odds. In these pages Kirk Franklin reveals the real source of his strength. "What motivates me," he says, "is the knowledge that God has redeemed me from the pain and the hurts and the sin of my past and given me a new joy I can't even explain. It's not just for show," he says. "It's the truth, and that's what I want to express."
